Controversial American Media Personality Dr. Umar Johnson Wants To Be A Nollywood Star

Controversial American Media Personality Dr. Umar Johnson Wants To Be A Nollywood Star

Dr. Umar Johnson, the esteemed American psychologist, has expressed a fervent desire to make his mark in the realm of Nigerian cinema. Urging the creative minds of Nollywood to extend an invitation, Dr. Johnson emphasized his eagerness to become a part of the vibrant Nigerian film industry.

In a video that has since gone viral, Dr. Johnson conveyed his enthusiasm, stating, “Nigeria, I’m waiting for an invitation. I’m trying to get into Nollywood. I want to star in some of the Nigerian movies. Somebody put me in touch with Black Nollywood in Nigeria.”

However, the distinguished psychologist set a condition for his cinematic venture, asserting the importance of conscious filmmaking. In his impassioned plea, he specified, “I want to be in a Nollywood movie. Anybody making a movie out there has got to be conscious though. I’m not doing any blaxploitation. My role has to be egocentric. My role has to be who I am. I can have a different name and personality, but it must be progressive and pan-Africanist.”

Dr. Johnson made it clear that he would not compromise on the nature of the roles he takes on, vehemently declaring, “I will not play a con on television. I’m not playing no pimp, no drug dealer, no criminal. It must be consistent. Egocentricity is a necessity.” This passionate plea adds an intriguing dimension to the prospect of seeing Dr. Umar Johnson grace the screens of Nollywood, provided the industry embraces his call for conscious and progressive storytelling.
